Yeah, this. I don't mind when they mention being a minority because it actually has relevance to their work (i.e. I'm way more likely to pick up a book about a black private eye in the 1920s French Quarter if I know the author themselves is black just because I know the author is writing through the lens of their own experience of navigating the world as a black person), but if it has nothing to do with what they're creating, then it just feels guilt-trippy, like you said.
