If Piggy was a man and Kermit a woman, there would be no question that her obsession - and forcing him to ask her to marry him/marry her as part of a "skit" with the ceremony done by a real priest - wouldn't be creepy as fuck.

But because she's a woman, it's all in good humor.

I know she's mellowed out since then but those early years were hard to watch in my Muppets marathon.

I realize that I’ve never told anyone that I found her very uncomfortable. I didn’t watch The Muppets much as a child, but I remember that, as well as feeling like I should like her because I was a girl.

I always put it down to being hypersensitive to steam-rollering pushiness and rudeness. But maybe I’m not the only one who feels that way.

I mean... can't disagree there. Broadly speaking, sexual harassment isn't really funny in a post-#MeToo world regardless of gender, especially when you have men like Terry Crews and Brendan Frasier speaking out about their experiences IMHO.

In fairness to The Muppets, I think early Ms. Piggy was considered funny to some because she flipped the script on the whole "obsessive stalker/sexual harasser" deal by being a domineering, forceful female character, which were fairly rare in that era. Very much a product of its time and Disney has toned her down significantly (she's less obsessed about Kermit and more leaning into the whole "#girlboss" thing from what I can tell), but it's one of those things where you kinda need to look at it in the context of the times.

No, you're not the only one. As a kid, I never quite liked her because she really raised my hackles at the time for similar reasons. As an adult, I've come to appreciate her, especially since I've developed a short-fused temper and inability to suffer no fools like her lmao.

Anyways, Janice is best Muppet Girl and I will die on that hill.

Agreed. Even at the time (and as a kid) I thought her obsession was kind of weird, but I understand why they played it that way at the time. The changes and updates to her character have been good ones, though.

For me, it's not the typical show per se, but... American Vandals. It was one of the best spoofs I've watched in years, the cast of both seasons knocked it out of the park, and I would've loved to see where they went next with it.
