I don't know who "you" is, and I don't know the fandom.

I just find it really fucking sad that OP (1) thinks anyone is okay with data centers and (2) actually thinks we live in a world where we have a say in the matter like the 1% doesn't own literally all the capital and can do fuckever they want to.

OP you're a peasant. You're a serf. Every American reading this is a serf. You have no voice. Your politicians are bought.

OP, you have zero solutions so just keep crying over the inevitable.

You’re using the internet, obviously you’re fine with data centers. You’ve been utilizing them for years. They are not and never have been “sucking up”resources. Most are closer to carbon neutral than the average American and the owners do major offset work. We will see them become carbon neutral in the next few years. All the bogeyman stories about water pollution were bullshit (no pun intended) and the NIMBY folks crying about their power grids are actually feeling the effects of outdated and degraded infrastructure, to which their closest data centers aren’t connected.

How sad

I'm up in the air personally on this issue. AI has tremendous potential for good and bad. Will AI navigation systems reduce accidents? Sure...eventually, when they suck less. Will AI solutions help researchers cure cancer? Maybe. Will AI also kill tons of jobs? Definitely. Will investing in AI make enrich some people? Also definitely, and maybe me?

DA
Personally my opinion on AI varies by what kind. AI in the medical field? Maybe, but test it before actually using it on people. (My insurance has an AI bot for consults and it misunderstands what I say constantly.) AI in the automotive fields? Unsure, but I will never use a self-driving car. AI for coding? Yeah, it's pretty useful for that! Using AI to replace professional fields? Absolutely not. AI art and music? Pure crap, no thanks. AI video editing like deepfakes? Hell fucking no.

Not OP, but there are a surprising amount of people that are okay with data centers. On the good news, we do actually have a say. Twice now a proposed sale of land and a building that were going to be data centers has been halted because of loud public protests in my area. You absolutely do have a voice, and saying otherwise just gives the ones in power more power.
