It's K/S and it's... *shrug* Not my cuppa tea. I prefer smart!Kirk (and well, Kirk/McCoy but I read K/S too, and I like the pairing), but this fic just didn't click for me. Some of it grated a little, but it's consistent at least. (It's 33 chapters long and WIP, I would hope so.) I didn't really hook into it, but other people have. I've read better versions of the same premise, in my opinion, so....

The summery is really boring: "In Progress. K/S, but slow-building. A misshap brings the Enterprise back to Earth for a while." Found here (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5071703/1/Home), if you haven't seen it already. Basically, um (had to think for a minute to remember), they go back to Earth, Uhura and Spock break up, Jim invites Spock to go with him to meet his mom, they run into some old boyfriend of Winona's (the owner of the car), they go to Canada to see Amanda's family, and well, yeah. That doesn't go as planned.

To be honest, I found the characterization...off. At least, it's too smooth, if that makes any sense. They don't have the same rawness of spirit that I love so much. Nu!Kirk and nu!Spock are rough around the edges in the new universe, and Lanaea just doesn't capture what I love about them. Whether or not other people see it that way... Eh, whatever.

So, I give it a B-. There aren't any major errors, it doesn't jump all over the place, and, well, it's not horrible. It's decent, solid fic. Just not what I look for in K/S, and that's all I can speak for.

Also, Spock is a PMSing girl. And Jim is kind of a manwhore, but that's all over now that he's found his ~true love~. Just as a head's up. :/

Well I think the characterization pretty much fits in with the slow-building of the fic ... I must say I was almost tempted to skip some parts when I read it, but I still enjoyed it.

Both Kirk and Spock seem a little subdues in it, though. More like walking around each other on tiptoes than taking some reckless or logical, respectively, action.

Home is not the best thing ever - I read shorter, more dynamic fics with no spelling errors - but it's good. Although not being finished takes away like 50 points out of a 100 from it, I hate it when authors do that.

This anon was with it right about until they actually had sex, and then the characterization and plot seemed to take a massive nosedive. Smalltext so true.

But to be fair, every moderately long K/S reboot fic I've ever read to this point had the exact same problem, though the characterization nosedive takes different forms. :P

(I think the thing that makes it frustrating to me rather than just "an okay fic" is that this fic is so well-known that I'm a longfic writer myself, and I fear if I include my own take on certain not-very-original plot points, like Spock going home with Jim to Iowa to meet his mom, or Spock not getting along with Spock Prime, people will assume I'm ripping this fic off.)

Actually it's OLDER than the internet. I have several zines that have the plot in it :-)
