Haha, lucky. I read the manga first (I didn't realise there was an anime...) and you're right, I do kinda hate the anime. I think that it has the potential to be deep and meaningful, but almost everytime there's a serious moment they ruin it with a silly gag.

Ok, before everybody jumps at me, let me state some things:

I am not a fan of Kuroshitsuji.
I didn't watch the anime at all.
I just follow the manga.

Ok? So, when I started reading the manga (almost forced by a friend of mine) I was expecting fanservice and fanservice alone, and I wasn't disappointed. However, when I reached the Cirque Arc I was totally amazed. Specially during the final confrontation in which Ciel totally lost it.

So, I dunno if I'd called it deep, but it moved me. So there... For me it's not only pretty art and fanservice... not anymore.

I dunno about Serious Business, but I've found some aspects of it to be fairly meaningful.
But then again, I'm one of those people who turns EVERYTHING into an allegory, so perhaps I'm a bit jaded.

I'm not running around going, "OMG, KUROSHITSUJI CHANGED MY LIFE, AND GAVE ME INSIGHT INTO THE INNER WORKINGS OF THE UNIVERSE", but I'm not going to say that it never made me think or cry or get goosebumps every time I hear the Lacrimosa ending theme.

I think you summed up the main reason why - although I love the manga and enjoyed much of the anime (if only because seeing the lovely style (and certain characters in particular Sebastian, Undertaker and Grell, I'm looking at you) - I am hesitant to join in any Kuroshitsuji-fandom-related things. xD;

And... while it's true that as a whole, the story doesn't seem to be meant to be taken seriously, there are some thoughtful parts and moving parts, as well. The way the anime ended is one such instance, I'd say - those last few scenes... oh.

... though the whole angel plot... stuff... had me going WTF????

Still... why on earth so much of the fanwork to do with it has to be so angsty and depressing, when clearly the story is bipolar in having both a depressing side to it (Ceil's life, pretty much) and a hilarious, lighthearted sided (everything else) (with a lovely splatter of darkness across the whole thing), I really cannot guess.

More lighthearted fun, I say!

Yana's commentary...? As in the mangaka, I'm presuming? I'm afraid I've only actually watched fansubbed episodes online, so I've not heard the commentary, but I'll certainly take your word for it. haha, nice to know that she doesn't take it seriously, either. =D
