Doubt is sacred in its own right. No god/dess worth their incense wants blind, unthinking faith; faith that's worth something has been tested and rethought. It's based on your experience of the world, the truth you've lived, not someone else's words from a pulpit or an ancient text. And as long as you're living and learning, your faith will grow and change with you. It's when it's been the same for too long that you have to worry.

Not-the-OP Anon here is confused. I always thought that the point of faith was, well, not testing it. 'I have faith that [whatever] is so...' without actually having proof. That at least for a few religions, it really is like a that quote from one of the books Douglas Adams wrote which goes:

Now it is such a bizarrely improbably coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful [the Babel fish] could have evolved by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.
The argument goes something like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."
"But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED"
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

(That's from a comedy scif-fi book, mind you, but I thought it was something like that...)

But faith really isn't enough?

Enough for what purpose? Sounds like it's not quite being enough for the OP . . .

Bear in mind that the quote in question there was written by an atheist. Hardly an expert on either faith or gods, I'd think. Pratchett's much better, IMHO - although I seem to recall he's an agnostic . . . .
