Wes is a weak, sad, lonely human that some how managed to go on after fucking up. Without super powers. Friendless. He went on to try and fight the good fight, if not being a jerk during it. THAT'S why we "forgive" him (forgive is a shitty term but in leu of a better one I'll use it) I never thought Angel should just forgive him, but he was also the first to really do so, and probably the only one who ever could. (He was the only one who knew the truth at Wolfram and Hart.) That's why he's the MAN.
But truth be told the only right person to side with is Lorne. Tru Fax.
Sorry for my rambling. I just love discussing this stuff!

But the only one who had the power and acted on it, the only one who made the decision, and executed that decision, was Wes. He was a grown man, right in his head, and he should have known that the bad guys lie and twist and shape things. These are not new ideas in the Whedonverse. But he allowed himself to be influenced, and he kept it all to himself instead of going to the others. He took the false portents at face fucking value instead of investigating the sources, and he took the word of a giant hamburger over trusting that maybe, just maybe, the others could have helped.
He knocked Lorne out, took Connor and met Justine. He delivered a baby into the hands of a man that wanted to hurt Angel down to his soul. Did Holtz have good reason? Yes, I think so. But the death of one baby (even hundreds) does not make the abduction of another baby right. Connor wasn't the one responsible for Angel's sins, but he was the one that paid for them.
The very least Wes could have done was apologize to Angel. Or maybe just not walk around like he was the victim. His 'poor me, I'm eating a shitty TV dinner all by myself' attitude grated on me.
P.S. my pissy tone is aimed at Wesley, btw, not you. I get riled when I think about how easily the whole thing could have been avoided. Then I take a step back and realize that it would always have turned out like that. Because Joss was the showrunner, and Joss loves misery and pain. :D

Yea. That aspect of Whedon-esque writing will never sit well with me. This stuff is all about the brooding. BOO. Wes should have, writing wise, retained some of the Wes-ness even through the shit he went through. (I know, no matter what happens to me, I retain me me-ness and don't become someone else completely)

Of course. I get pissy about stuff in shows all the time, and love when I can chat about it with people who get that disagreeing about this stuff isn't personal and can play nice.
