Whatever she says, that picture doesn't look anything like she quit shaving. She looks like she just got lazy that week. If I go longer than a month without shaving I get borderline bushy, and I don't even have dark hair so it's not as highly visible either.

Actually, since she has shaved now and then at certain times, that pic may have been just after she quit again. She has more hair now. I love how she hasn't turned into a statement, just said she doesn't see why women should have to do it and so she goes long times without it. Might not even do it again, from the sounds of it.

Everyone is different as far as how much hair they grow and what it looks like. I don't shave my legs and you can't really tell until you look very closely (and I do have dark hair). I do shave my armpits, but I have stopped shaving for various periods of time before and my armpits ended up looking pretty much just like hers.

I don't know who Amanda Palmer is and I'm too lazy to google it right now, but for me shaving my armpits is not about feminism or my image as a woman. I do it because *I* want to, not because society expects me to. If I don't shave I start smelling bad and it's just... unhygienic and gross. I think there are other ways of supporting feminist ideas without making people throw up in their mouth when they're around you. But hey, whatever floats your boat. If you feel beautiful the way you are (hairy armpits and all) - MORE POWER TO YOU.

I shave my armpits, but I only shave my legs a couple times a year. Not to make any sort of statement - it's simply because my legs get really itchy when I shave them (like to the point where *all* I can think about is HOW BADLY THEY ITCH), and the feeling of any sort of fabric against shaved legs squicks me out like crazy. I hate it.

But yeah, not shaving is awesome, anon. Shorter showers FTW!

I think it's pretty cool that she walks around with hairy pits. I went through a no-shaving period myself, and no, hygiene and shaving are NOT connected. I shave now because I find that in my mind, it's what seems right for me. It's my body image. If your body image includes hairy pits, ROCK IT GIRL! :D

I shave my armpits because I get less sweaty that way. Legs, most of the time I can't be bothered. (A little butch goes a long way - nobody expects you to do these things.)

Don't really care about Palmer but if it means fewer people are expected to go to ridiculous lengths of hairlessness, then great.

Quit. Just think of never having to do the deodorant dance again. Never stinging under your arms because you nicked yourself and you're sweating. And after you've let it grow out, it won't itch, either, as long as you don't skimp on the soap and water.

I pretty much guarantee you that after you haven't shaved for a decade, you won't even remember that you have hairy pits unless you get reminded by something like this secret.

I don't shave my armpits most of the time, especially not now when it's cold out and I have to wear three layers of clothes to work. Just when I'm wearing something where people will see my armpits because I hate getting shit about it. Even though armpit hair is no big deal, seriously. I trim it when I don't shave it anyway

It's not like I'm making a statement, and I'm not lazy, it's just silly to shave my pits because I'm going to see stubble hours later anyway, and I get tons of ingrown hairs and horrible painful bumps (no matter what method I use, depilatory creams included). Whenever I remove hair from any part of my body that's not my legs and arms it tends to be a fucking nightmare.

Although I have to say that the expectation that women always need to be completely clean-shaven all over but men don't really pisses me off
