Troll or not, it disgusts me completely that you would want someone dead for someone so fucking insignificant. I hope you live a long, miserably, lonely life.

Also way2go with the calling her a "whore" for her decisions in life as though that makes her a bad person. If she wants to do that with her body, it is her fucking right to do so. Enough with the goddamn slut-shaming.

[identity profile] wondersuzan.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
She is in part responcible for males thinking they can treat us all like whores.

When she is in the pulic eye, when she will be taken by the males as a symbole for my whole fucking gender, then no, it is NOT her body, and it is NOT her right to promote objectifycation.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
it is NOT her body

Whoa Nelly.

It is so very much her body. It's her right to do whatever she wants to do. She is a human being. Her being a celebrity does not strip her of her personhood and make it okay for people to dictate to her what she can and cannot do.

[identity profile] wondersuzan.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She is a human being

If you say so. Personally, I think the right to be treat like a legitimate person... well if it's not somthing that has to be won, it's certainly somthing that can be lost, and her actions and lifestyle, imo, make her beyond worthless as a person.

But ok, you're missing my point a little:

She can do whatever she wants but being THAT 'person' Makes her an enemy of every real and legitimate woman that DOENT want to be constantly raped by the male gaze.

She CAN assault us like this, but she is on RIGHT to. It Is HER body, but she is being using it against women in a way that really means if there was any justice in the world she'd... just fucking die. Cant formulate anything less ragefull than that about her. She just disgusts me so fucking much

She is in part responcible for males thinking they can treat us all like whores.

No, she's not. Women are not responsible for male misogyny. Women are also not responsible for the actions of men. MEN are responsible for men.

it is NOT her body

Yes, it is.

Personally, I think the right to be treat like a legitimate person... well if it's not somthing that has to be won, it's certainly somthing that can be lost

No, it's not. Everyone has the right to be treated like a full person. I can't express how disgusting it is that you think a woman loses her right to be treated like a person because she's a [presumably willing] sex object.

THAT'S misogyny, and that does far more damage than Megan Fox in a bikini ever will.

Makes her an enemy of every real and legitimate woman that DOENT want to be constantly raped by the male gaze.

She's a real and legitimate woman, and you aren't "raped" by the male gaze. Save the term "rape" for actual rape please, and stop trivializing rape.

She CAN assault us like this

She's not assaulting you. Do you know what "assault" actually is? Her manner of dressing or acting in no way "assaults" you.

It Is HER body, but she is being using it against women in a way that really means if there was any justice in the world she'd... just fucking die.

She's not using her body against other women. She's using her body to work a system created to benefit men. In that respect, she is no different from any other woman; she's just lucky enough to be more successful in some respects. But, I'm sure, at a cost.

Also, the fact that you'd wish her dead for doing nothing more than conforming to patriarchal standards disgusts ME. Please explain why you are blaming HER and not the patriarchy for the position she's in.

I'm pretty sure the person you're responding to is crazy, but still, excellent post. MTE.

[identity profile] wordfuzion.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, seriously, I completely believe that men need to learn to respect women again and it's up to us women to be respectable. (ie...not dressing like a prostitute, realizing we are so awesome we don't have to reply on physical beauty, not perpetuating the stereotype of women as ONLY sexual objects) BUT this is so unnecessary. Do you REALLY think calling each other whores and sluts and such is helping women? REALLY?

[identity profile] snowdevil-crow.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, the idea that women can only be respectable if they dress a certain way is kind of... idk, against the whole idea of feminism, IMO. To me, the idea that a woman who is sexy or shows off her body is nothing but a sex object and unworthy of respect is kind of more detrimental than anything. I agree that women being treated as sex objects is pretty sexist, but at the same time, when a woman shows off her body, who is it that's disrespecting her? Herself, for dressing hot, or the person claiming she's nothing more than an object of pleasure? It's attitudes like that which contribute to the notion that female sexuality and female bodies are objects, not the act of a woman showing off her body.

[identity profile] wordfuzion.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Okay...I get how that might have sounded awkward. Which tells me that I need to put more thought into the opinion. So thank you for bringing that to my attention and giving me another thing to comtemplate!

Believe it or not, I AM a feminist. I think women are so awesome that they can do anything a man can do, and I try very hard to be a Proverbs 31 woman in my daily life. I, personally, yes am a modest dresser. Do I wear a burka? Hardly! Push up bras, imo, are one of the best inventions ever, lol. I just think there's a line between embracing your sexy, something I do myself, and being mistaken for a prostitute.

[identity profile] snowdevil-crow.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hm... well, I can kind of get where you're coming from, I think. Dressing modestly is not a bad idea, and it is pretty annoying that there is so much pressure from the media and whatnot on girls and young women to dress revealingly. But at the same time, to me, showing off one's body =/= becoming an object of pleasure for men (which I know is not what you're trying to say at all, but it is an attitude that I've seen a lot, even from feminists). And I think it's rather detrimental to tell women that 'showing too much skin' makes them less respectable and degrades them. To me, the degrading there comes from the person treating them as less valuable or less respectable based on how many clothes they're wearing.

(Of course, the situation is kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing, I've noticed. If a woman doesn't dress revealingly, she's a stuck-up prude. If she does, she's an object to be used for men's pleasure... my thoughts on feminism, let me show you them)

Anyway, there was another thing I wanted to mention - your comparison to prostitution kind of sits a little wrong with me. I'm of the school of thought that prostitution is/should be a respectable, legitimate profession, so it's a bit depressing to see it being referred to so negatively. I don't think there's anything wrong with a woman using her body however she wishes, even if it's for profit through sex. :/

[identity profile] wordfuzion.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize that attitude was detrimental, but when I sit back and think about it, perhaps it is a little. I don't think showing less skin makes women less respectable, but men don't seem to take it that way, in the experiences I'VE personally had. But maybe I've just known alot of piggish men, lol.

My own personal belief is that sex is a beautiful, natural thing that occurs between consenting adults. While I'm not thrilled with prostitution, believe it or not I do think it should be legalized. It incesses me to no end that the women get thrown in jail and the man who hired them gets off. Either punish them both or don't punish at all! But since I believe in sex as a CONSENSUAL act...if the parties involved want to bring money into the equation, that's their own decision. So my tone might have been unnecessarily harsh.

This is one reason I love F!S, I have some of the most interesting discussions on social and political issues here! And thank you, Crow, for bringing some new points up for my consideration. I like to think of my beliefs as constantly evolving, not a set dogma. :)

[identity profile] snowdevil-crow.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, but then, wouldn't the problem be with the men thinking that way, not the women's attire? :D

And you're very welcome, I love F!S for the same reason. It's surprising how many interesting things can be brought up and discussed on a fandom-based comm.

[identity profile] wordfuzion.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent point! We need to make them stop being such little perverts. Which is....going to be really, really hard. But not impossible. :)

I agree! It's amazing what comes up in the course of fandom. I wish the haters of fandom would come see the issues and concerns we explore in discussion, meta, fic, etc. :)
