Eeee, I remember loving that show so hard. It was kind of awesome that it went straight to the darker plots without having to deal with all the censorship issues that plagued the earlier seasons of Reboot. The alien designs were so cool too.

Maybe I was still recovering from the sting of having Reboot end, but I didn't think War Planets or Shadow Raiders was that great, at least not enough to call it Mainframe's masterpiece. It didn't have the quirky humour of Reboot or that really dark edge of its later seasons that allowed the series to address better subject matter and develop more dramatic storylines.

I would like to see a continuation for it though.

I dunno, "Daemon Rising" was the darkest that I remember ReBoot getting. And I found several episodes of War Planets, especially the second season, far more disturbing that that.

I thought the whole post-apocalyptic mainframe dystopia was pretty dark. I'm thinking that War Planets had some dark subject matter upon reflection (like the destruction of a whole planet), but the presentation was a bit campy so it wasn't as apparent. Or it wasn't campy, but it was presented in a way that had more levity. On ReBoot, there was more of a direct consequence on the characters whenever something really messed up happened. As a side note, it kind of didn't help that the voice actors for the villains on War Planets weren't that great or menacing either.

I've only just started watching War Planets, and I've already fallen a bit in love. The characters are so much fun to watch and the CG is just gorgeous - not that Reboot wasn't, but sometimes I really do stop and gape at how pretty everything looks.

So, yeah,War Planets ftw. :D

Definitely a good show, I think the lack of fandom may partially be due to the different names. I only know of it as Shadow Raiders, never even heard of War Planets.

IIRC, it was called Shadow Raiders up in Canada as the networks didn't want to have 'war' in the title (the same way Beast Wars was called Beasties up here too).

I remember seeing ads for the toys as War Planets and when the show came up as Shadow Raiders, I was a bit wtf'd at the name change.

Yeah. I saw it in the States, and when I was hunting down second season, I wasn't finding jack. Until I remembered the name change, and that season 2 only aired in Canada. D'OH!

I miss that show. A few months ago I realized that I never did see the second season so I downloaded the whole thing (originally I looked for DVDs, but I only found a couple volumes and they were way too expensive for nostalgia). The opnly problem was then I was in the mood for fic and such and there's...pretty much nothing. I really wish they'd gotten a third season, just to see what could've happened (probably didn't help the fandom any that season 2 never aired in the US, for that matter).

I was going to say I'd never heard of it until I noticed in the comments it was also called Shadow Raiders, and that's the title I know it by. Still only heard of it and never seen it, though. But I do love Mainframe, so maybe I should look into it (though I honestly don't know that I could love anything as much as ReBoot!).
