Awww, I know exactly where you're coming from anon. The show and fandom were and still are a big part of my life and it's been pretty depressing dealing with it turning into this largely different show, and the influx of new fans who love this new version. It feels like being a relic. Especially since, unfortunately, I haven't enjoyed S4/5 or Castiel/Misha.

IA those years really have done a number on Wincest for a lot of people, and I can't see it anymore either. Writing fic set during those years requires so much canon and character fudging, when as you point out, it used to come so easy from there. I've recently gotten my Wincest squee back a little (because I've been able to remember what it was like in S1-3), but I think that's as good as it gets. I don't see the show ever being what it was again, (I don't think these writers have the chops or the inclination, tbh). The first three seasons will always be the show to me, and I just try to focus on the fact that they were pretty awesome while they lasted. :)
