Yeah, some CAPSLOCK COMMS can be breeding ground for trolls and wank. But for the most part, they are for silly fun. They mock because they love, and usually have some of the best people in fandom.
Yeah, some BNF's try to use their names for their own agendas and... let's face it, are only BNF's because they amassed a huge flist and then became wanktastic. But most of the time, they're the genuinely talented people in fandom that other people hate on because they're not as popular. BNF's in themselves aren't the problem.
Trolls usually aren't fans in the first place and if you ignore them they go away. Problem solved.
I will give you shipwars, though, those will never stop being stupid and annoying.
