I feel that it's because of him for a number of reasons; first off, being that he's about ten times as awesome as Sam and Dean combined. Everything he does just exudes this sense of "Wow". Even him entering the hospital in, what, the second episode of season 5, was it? Or his reappearance in the first episode?

My other reasons are that because the fans love him oh so very much, the writers are giving him a lot more screentime than he should have. Why is he now a main cast member (up there on the credits with Jared and Jensen) when Genevieve Cortese never was? She was in a lot of episodes as well.

As well as that, Dean seems to be more fond of Castiel these days than his own brother. Okay, I get it, Sam betrayed him, chose a demon over him etc, etc, etc, but the devotion between Sam and Dean in the first three seasons was so deep, so intense... Dean practically raised Sam and Sam looked up to him with such love (whether you see it as wincest or just brotherly love)... and yet Dean's willing to turn his back on him when he made one mistake?

They both made mistakes; Dean broke the first seal, Sam the last. Neither are innocent, but Dean turns away from Sam and seems to be putting all of his trust and devotion into Castiel and relying on him instead.

Maybe this is just how I see it, but there we go. That's why I blame Castiel.

But don't get me wrong - I love Castiel and I think Misha Collins is hilarious and a fantastic actor.

I can see a lot of those things, actually. To me, I don't think Dean really does like Castiel more or has turned his back on Sam. It reads to me more that Dean's feelings about Sam are just way more intense than they are about Castiel. It's like a relief for Dean to have Cas because he's a friend, and while they've had a pretty huge backstory, he doesn't feel responsibile for him or panic about him. While with Sam when he was going down that wrong path and all their issues came out Dean was totally panicked and it hit him more deeply. So anytime it seems like Dean's pulling away it's because there's huge emotions going on there.

But it does change the dynamic a lot!

Hmm. I like that way of seeing things. I shall probably nick that off you LOL.

I don't know if I like the whole changed dynamic thing :( I miss seasons 1-3 :/
