I applaud you for this. I've had my mind opened to certain ships that I wouldn't have been into otherwise through this exact same mechanism. I think it's a good thing, it adds to fandom variety. Who cares if part of your motivation for putting in the popular pairing scenes is to appeal to their established fanbase? If that's what your headers look like, the popular pairing fans can clearly get an idea beforehand of what they can expect pairing-wise from your fic. I don't see it as them being duped into reading your fic since the it actually does contain the pairing they came for, but in addition it also focuses on what you like to write.

In conclusion: OP, I support what you are doing and keep up the good work!

I've done that once or twice, but I genuinely ship pretty much everyone in all the fandoms I write regularly - there's no "eugh" for me in the Your/Ship scenes, it's just that I like My/Ship better, or think it needs more attention.

...Man. I can't imagine writing a ship I didn't like into a fic when I don't personally feel it has significance. I write pairings I'm not particularly into all the time when I think it's necessary to the plot, and this secret makes me worry that people might start to suspect I'm like you :/

Well, is is like A/B and B/C, or is it A/B and C/D? Because if it was the first, I'd think people would get a bit annoyed that you have one of the people in their OTP cheating on the other...

It is a case of putting A/B into a fic that is ultimately B/C. But I've never been called on it, and the people who tell me they came for the A/B always seem to enjoy the B/C in the end, even if they don't usually. Thus why I can tell myself I'm just educating the masses about a new ship, rather than being a shameless review whore.

And it's good because often fans of a fandom's main OTP would not feel compelled to read any other pairing. It opens their minds to other things.
