I'm through AHM in IDW at this point, and I have to say that it has been generally a pretty great read. Kinda a new TF fan so right now I'm still like "Anything Transformers is awesome! :D"
My absolute favorite is Robert Reed, but no one's ever heard of the guy. Adam Roberts too. I've always been fond of Larry Niven's stuff and Timothy Zahn's non-Star Wars books are great. Gregory Benford can be fun. Um. Man, I know there's more but I am blanking at the moment. D:

Skjshg I loved AHM when I read that. But I'm a biased Decepticon fangirl like that. So far I'm kind of like "Not sure if want" about the new IDW stuff but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I think once it really gets going it will be good.
:< I can't say I've heard of him either, but I'm always looking for new stuff to read so maybe I'll check some of his stuff out once I've narrowed down my "to read" list. Right now I'm trying to get through the rest of Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.

AHM was awesome. I loved the Decepticon powerplay and the Autobots kinda broke my heart at points. I'm still trying to figure out what to read after AHM because haha, figuring out the continuity to get up to that point was a little difficult. (I am used to the DC numbering system.) But hopefully it gets good. As long as it's still fun, it should be.
I think I've heard of him, but I don't think I've actually read anything. I'll have to add those to my to do list as well. :)

Have you read all of the previous IDW stuff? I was soooo confused when I started reading TF comics. I didn't realize that there were like three different companies with stuff that was around. Dreamwave has some pretty cool stuff, but it's a pain in the butt to find now since they're bankrupt and dead. You can track it down via internet though. And the oldschool 80s Marvel comics are pretty amusing too. As a fellow Shockwave fan I think you'd like both of them if you're interested. Just be warned: Dreamwave leaves off forever on a Godawful cliffhanger, and Marvel has wack art and a lot of it is super cheesy.
I picked up the Banks stuff after a friend mentioned them and the spaceship/robot characters in the series. It's not too often I come across a book that totally hooks me on the first page. Some are better than others, but they're definitely worth checking out. So far my favorites have been Consider Phlebas, Use of Weapons, and Excession.

Yeah, I've read everything that comes before AHM. I stumbled upon some list somewhere that finally made sense of IDW numbering for me. It's figuring out what comes after that I need to get to. XD But I am addicted to wikis, so I've been trawling through those and slowly figuring my way around the comics.
Oh man, actual robot characters? I must check these out. The authros I read usually don't do that.

Oh man the TF Wiki has saved my butt with fandom stuff so many times. Especially when I was first getting into it, there were so many times I would be sitting there thinking "Ok, I'm reading this and I have no idea who 90% of these characters are. Time to go figure this out."
Yesss! That was a big selling point for me. And not just robots like C-3PO in Star Wars either. Pretty much all of the Culture's machines are sentient, from the suitcase-size drones all the way up to the giant ships and Orbital human habitats. I have to say, the mechanical characters are some of the best in the whole series. And the ships in particular have the coolest bunch of names.

I'm the kind of person that needs to do the research ahead of time. When I was first poking around I decided to watch the 1984 cartoon and had the hardest time telling who everyone was. They all looked the same. Wikis are lifesavers. Now I don't even have to squint at the comic panels. Haha.
Dude. I have three original characters who are sentient drones. It is so good to know that there are actual authors putting that in fiction finally. The culture an AI group would invent is entirely fascinating to me.

I had the same problem when I started reading the comics/watching the cartoon. I could remember a few of the major characters, but everybody else just kind of blurred together and I couldn't remember who was who for the life of me.
:D You should definitely check out the Culture novels then. I think you'd really enjoy them. Some of the ones I've read haven't had a lot to do with the machine characters, but the three I listed before are good ones.
