Name: Bob
Age: 21
Location: Lancaster, UK
Fandoms: Supernatural, Neil Gaiman, Ai Yazawa, Farscape, Flash Forward, Sleeper Cell, Inspector Poirot (beats Sherlock Holmes anyday)
What in fandom interests me: Roleplaying. How do you guys do it without paper and dice? 0_o
What in fandom does NOT interest me: The lack of a beginner's guide, or even a bleedin' lexicon. Or is this the beginner's test?
Major Non-fandom Interests: The Occult, tea and cake, music (jazz + Heavy Metal. Though not both at once)
My LJ Contains Mostly: Quick, mini-rants
Other: I run an Anime society at my Uni, and a blogspot blog on the occult under this username.

I'd post a funny .gif here, but I 'aint got one :(

Kay you look interesting. Consider yourself friended. This IS how this works, correct?

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I assume so. I'm a little new to this too. You have me at a disadvantage, however. Interests?

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Or I could just look further down the page I guess :/ Let's try that one again - favourite Gaiman work and why?

[identity profile] demiincarnate.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
You are never at a disadvantage when it comes to me! My ignorance knows no bounds!
Probably American Gods. Its scale is so epic I am dazzled, like so: *-* The Sandman series is a close second, but I haven't finished reading it yet, so I am ashamed to proclaim my love for it. How about you?

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
AG is great for interesting Myth titbits, and Neverwhere got me into him in the first place. Then there's A Study in Emerald - Sherlock Holmes plus Cthulhu in his hands could never go wrong!

(And I haven't finished Sandman either ;) I'm trying to get into more of his short stories, too)

[identity profile] demiincarnate.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do so love his use of mythology. And Lovecraft. A Study in Emerald is amazing. Have you read Gaiman's other short story narrated by Cthulhu? I don't recall what it's named, but it is quite excellent.
I love his short story collections. I have a signed copy of Fragile Things. It was a good reward for three hours in line to meet him...

'Sup. I fan over SPN and I know most of the acronyms.
ext_494345: from somewhere on the internet (Default)

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's not so much the acronyms as the bizarre fan-mythology behind it (like the Real-Person slash. Ick.) Especially since my two flatmates are rabid Dean/Castiel girls. The other night they were on about Cas' invisible "crony ponies" and I thought they were on drugs O_o
ext_494345: from somewhere on the internet (Default)

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
So yes, interests. I see you're into HIMYM too (something I forgot to list), so here's a good one I bamboozle other people I watch both with - which out of that and SPN made the better comeback after the winter break?

[identity profile] mneiai.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Poirot would have the case solved and be having a lunch with Hastings while Holmes was still on the first clue!

Fandom's more of a sink or swim deal ^.^
ext_494345: from somewhere on the internet (octopaut)

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Poirot even kicked ass in this bizarre anime I saw the other day where he was assisted/impeded by a 14-year old girl with a pet duck. Who happened to be miss Marple's great-granddaughter for some reason. Sometimes I despair of anime, I really do.

So I gather. I guess the shallow end is good enough for now, since from what I gather from F!S there are some seriously deadly sharks in the other end.

So I couldn't find your entry here so i checked your profile (stalking :D). You're a fan of Fairy tales, eh? Just the Grimm bros/Andersen end or more broadly?

[identity profile] mneiai.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, anime *shakes head*

You'll get used to it eventually. I was lucky enough to start out when it was still all mailing lists and whatnot, LJ must seem so huge haha

I think it's on page 9. I like legends/myths/etc.
ext_494345: from somewhere on the internet (Default)

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent stuff! I'm mostly into folklore (especially about monsters etc) but i've got stuff like a set of Lang's Red/blue/green/rainbowstripe/polkadot fairy books waiting to be read. And glaring at me from my hard-drive until I do so.

Found it! Whoa, you get Top Gear in the states? Incidentally, Re: .gif - SHARKS D: I thought I was safe in the sky!?

Friends?

[identity profile] mneiai.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I hate those glaring books with their judging eyes.

Yeah, we do, though the stuff that airs on tv is very cut. And generally it's the best stuff they cut. Good thing one doesn't have to rely on the tv these days haha

Sure!

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, some of us still use paper and dice! ;-)

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Good to hear. And apparently it's not so hard if you obsessively check the thread for updates. Given how bad I can be at that, I might as well do it by snail-mail.

Any systems you prefer?

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a GURPS girl, myself - pretty much won't GM in anything else unless bribed - but I've played everything from AD$D 2nd ed. through Call of Cthulhu and the old World of Darkness games to Feng Shui and various superhero games.
ext_494345: from somewhere on the internet (Maskface)

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent stuff. I've dabbled in GURPS, though mostly through checking out awesome RL stuff through the sourcebooks :D I mostly do Old and New world of darkness, though my buddies and I do Dark Heresy from time to time. Overall though i'm a sucker for old Roleplaying books, especially Unknown Armies and, since my buddies run it sometimes, I'm occasionally bribed with beer to join in Shadowrun. Although that's a very bad system to play while drinking and being a n00b.

I've been meaning to check out Call of Cthulhu (as well as actually read his books on my shelf) - it's in my Sourcebooks folder somewhere! Plus, I totally misread your username and thought you were a mega-fan of Gorkamorka. What an... oddly specific choice that woulda been.

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely agree with you that Poirot is better than Sherlock Holmes.

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn straight - it's the short, polite Belgians they never expect. Same with Charlie Chan. .......what with him being from Belgium and all >_>

Okay, 5 pages later and I still can't find your entry on this thing. Interests?

In return, see below under "Oh wait, here it is!" for the horrifying .gif I shoulda posted back at the start.

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, "horrifying .gif" is an accurate description! Yikes!

And navigating these giant memes can be a bit mind-numbing after a while, so here's my interest list c/p'd because I'm too lazy to type the whole thing again:

Fandoms: Violinist of Hameln, Fullmetal Alchemist, Transformers, Star Wars, Final Fantasy VII (mostly the original game, not too interested in the compilation nonsense), Twelve Kingdoms, Wolf's Rain, Castle, Inu Yasha, Heroes, various book fandoms that don't really exist (Coldfire, The Book of the New Sun, The Chronicles of the Cheysuli, Iain M. Banks' Culture novels...the list goes on)
There are more interests than things I'm actually active in. I tend to lurk in fandoms more than anything. Also I'm sure I've forgotten loads of things, so check my interests if you'd like.
Major Non-fandom Interests: Military history, violent weather/stormchasing (never actually been but I'd love to), volcanoes, travel, photography, embroidering, Muse, music in general, current events/world affairs, military technology, occasional karaoke, old-fashioned clothes, cooking, playing the flute, pretending I can draw/write. Loads of other things I'm forgetting.
My LJ Contains Mostly: Rants/RL stuff, tons of memes, fangirling fandom nonsense, picspams, music upload spams, whatever randomly pops into my head and seems deserving of a post.

[identity profile] obscuritan.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Some interesting fandoms you've got there (*original* FFVII, FMA and Wolf's Rain in particular). Plus you seem to be in possession of a ridiculously pretty profile. Friends?

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
:) Sure thing! Added you just now.
