I'm thankful for fandom, too, and I don't think I'd be who I am today without it.

TIML. Fandom has influenced so many different parts of my life, in so many different ways. And I don't even get involved! Nor would I tell anyone in my real life. But it has had a huge impact, and I love it.

Why would that be weird? (And why would you imagine that a community as deeply seeped in fandom as this one would find that weird?). Is it any weirder than taking life lessons from a particular job or relationship?

And, also, it's really good to see a "fandom is cool!"-secret, instead of a "fandom sucks, I love rl"-secret. :)

Me too, anon. I would be a completely different person if it weren't for fandom. As an example, I was raised to believe homosexuality was a sin, but seeing so much slash fic in fandom when I was younger forced me to re-evaluate everything I'd been told. Mind you, since then I've of course formed my own thoughts on it aside from slash, but fandom is what tends to plant the seeds for critical thinking on seemingly rational beliefs.

Yes, a hugehugehugehuge THIS to this. If not for fandom I'd probably be a much less accepting person in general and still think I was going to hell for liking someone of my own gender. It first exposed me to so many viewpoints different to what I was used to while growing up, viewpoints that I might not even have opened my eyes to at all in my otherwise sheltered and kind of isolated existence.

Same here. I also wouldn't have it any other way.
