Have you read the book? The slash is so overt. Even more so than in the film. Bastian and Atreyu hold hands under the moonlight and watch the fireworks together. I think this pairing was also my first OTP, too, long before I discovered fandom. But I got it from reading the book at age 9, lol. I would definitely recommend getting it out and having a read. :D
