I love Mickey and Martha. I did feel like Mickey got shafted in the first two seasons simply by a) being left behind and b) playing second fiddle to the Doctor, romantically. Anyone connected to the Doctor's companion, let alone romantically connected, is going to be shafted somehow. However, he got to be super badass once he stayed behind in the alternate universe, and I loved that he got to be with his "Gran" again. ;_; Even the characters admitted that they were taking him for granted at that point and didn't really know enough about him, but I'm glad he got to develop further from there. Plus him and Jake are bros4life.

I'm on s3 currently, and I'm already aware that Martha's being shafted because the Doctor still pines for Rose (not that I blame him, he nearly confessed to her after she did likewise). I can't really comment on her characterization so far but I find she contrasts well with Rose, in that she's a hell of a lot more intelligent, and she's very resourceful. On the other hand, it bugs me that the Doctor can't fully appreciate her yet since he's got his head in the clouds over Rose half the time.

Thanks for the spoiler warning, now I'm intrigued. I've had plenty spoiled for me already but that's very courteous of you. I've gotten the impression that End of Time is more or less a trainwreck; I almost wish it was optional to watch it (I never like reaching the end of a show), but I'll get to it eventually, lol.

I just wanted to butt in and say that The End of Time P1&2 isn't a trainwreck. It's simply another case of a show ending an era (the 10th Doctor) and there's no way for the creator to please everyone. So there's lots of complaining from people who didn't get the ending that THEY wanted.

I only started watching DW this past fall (after I fell in love with Torchwood), and I managed to catch up on all of the New Who episodes -- series 1-4 -- by Christmas. And trust me, there's nothing in the 10th Doctor's finale that seems horribly out of character, wrong, or an affront to all that great sci-fi stands for. But you'd never know it by some of the fans' reaction.

To each their own, but I would suggest keeping an open mind because the DW fandom has been wanktastic since the '60s, and the build up to a regeneration event always seems to cause an even greater influx of wank. That's why I pretty much left the show alone for years. I have more than enough drama in my other fandoms.

No worries, I'm reserving actual judgment until I see it for myself. Thanks for the insight though.

I've slowly started to get into the fandom, but I've been avoiding the main comm just so I don't get spoiled. Generally I enjoy things better if I stay outside of the Internet fandom and just talk to friends about it; thankfully it's been pretty easy to get friends catching on.

LOL no. I didn't like End of Time because I felt it was poorly written with bad special effects, some of the acting was terrible and the ending would have been just fine if it had stopped before the final ten minutes - I didn't need to see any particular character get a particular ending, but way to generalise!

And IMO, Ten's final words are out of character.

I agree. But at least they made everyone I was watching the finale with break out into helpless fits of laughter. Nearly missed the new guy's lines because of it. XD Thanks, RTD. ^^

Like I said about the Martha thing, in the first episode I saw I didn't feel that the Doctor didn't treat Martha well, just that he was still pining for Rose (interestingly,I got that impression from Martha rather than anything the Doctor did) so that did colour my judgement a bit until I watched the series in order. And of course Martha is awesome and smart and resourceful and I'm always a bit weirded out when people don't see that...

Well, End of Time for me was a bit of a WTF experience but rewatching the two part together did make it better. It wasn't the most brilliant episode ever but note that people not in fandom tended to like it a lot more than those in fandom. You'll get a lot of positive reviews from sci-fi blogs and such.

(Personally, I disliked Journey's End much more than I did End of Time. Both have reunions but I feel like End of Time is a lot sweeter, with the Doctor showing that he did care for all his companions and that he does miss them all. but YMMV on this ep)
