No. He's Armenian jokingly posing as an Assyrian, it's revealed in Closing Time, Catch-22's sequel.

Excellent timing; I'm listening to this right now and this will certainly keep me interested. :D

I don't see why not, though I thought Alan Arkin did a fine job in the movie.

I also don't think how he's said to look ought to be relevant; for Yossarian not to look how he says he does, or even for him to look nothing like how he should look isn't really out-of-place for the book, in my opinion.

Mostly just commenting because I have a relevant icon.
