Anybody who attempts suicide because someone insulted them over the internet has more serious problems.

I used to be a pretty regular poster on moddb, and I followed a lot of big-name mods for different games. One mod I followed was Killing Floor for Unreal Tournament 2004. The first version that came out was atmospheric brilliance; the second version that came out was a steaming turd. It got rid of everything I liked about 1.0 and turned it into this ridiculously shitty game where holding a pistol slowed your walk speed to a crawl. A pistol, for fuck's sake. I'm sorry, but handguns do not weigh 60 pounds.

I expressed my views on KF's moddb page and described my disappointment. I was IMMEDIATELY set upon by Alex Quick, the egotistical motherfucker who designed the mod and who was convinced he was the next Gooseman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minh_Le), not to mention his legion of sycophants who branded me a troll and tried to get me banned from moddb. One frequent argument I heard was "you're not a modder, you don't know what you're talking about" which is a logical fallacy that makes me so fistclenchingly fucking angry just to think about it. I don't need to be a musician to know that the Rolling Stones suck. But Alex Quick himself spent the next year following me around on moddb and trying to start fights with me. I eventually just quit going for a while so I could get that stupid motherfucker to leave me alone.

But I didn't slit my wrists over it.

So you're going to continue in this pattern when I point out that you don't know what you're talking about, right? I have nothing to say about mods except that you are allowed your own opinion, but that there is some discretion involved in knowing when it is and isn't wise to express it. I can say that, although I'm not a Stones fan, your opinion sounds pretty ignorant. "I don't like it" is not the same as "it's bad in the technical sense."

I'm also going to point out that shit that applies to you and how you personally deal with things cannot be expected to expand to cover every single person who is in any way involved in fandom.

I'm not the person you're responding to, and I'm not some sort of crazy stalker either, but I have commented things anonymously that may have seemed as though I was trying to start an argument with you on one occasion in the thread of one secret. I can't help but wonder if you've just incurred a bunch of different anons to respond unhappily to you on multiple different occasions. You do have a sort of brash way of talking about things that I can imagine inciting all sorts of NERD RAEG from different people when you talk about things they are fannishly rabid about. Just wondering, does this anon stalker leave some sort of calling card, or are you just assuming it's all the same person?

It's mostly this snippy, self-righteous attitude that comes through in the text along with some big leaps in logic- like the "followed around for years by a legion of jealous attackers" thing. If they're several different people, and maybe they are, well, I honestly don't know if that's not sadder than one lone individual with a hatecrush. It'd be so much easier if people who don't like me would log in, it'd help me keep 'em all straight.

And yeah, I know I don't exactly sugarcoat my opinions or anything, but people get way too enraged way too easily.
