People who attempt suicide because of online bullying were just going to do it anyway. (paraphrased from many places)

I keep seeing sentiments like this, and the point is that problem is suicidal depression and you don't know if they have problems or not, nor can you read potential futures. For all anyone knows, a person who suicided over being bullied online might have had a talk with someone the very next damn day and gotten help for their troubles if unprovoked. They might have done it anyway, just another day. We don't know.

IRL, people can give cues, conscious or unconscious, about how much something is hurting them. Most people aren't assholish enough to provoke someone who's already battling depression. If it reaches an extreme point, most decent people will back off.

Online, you don't know if this person might already be troubled, and there's no way to see when it's going to far. And it so easily does for some people. How often do people need sarcasm tags? Personally, it makes me more careful, because I never know what toes I'm stepping on.

Saying, "Well, ze was already going to do it eventually" doesn't absolve the fact that ze was provoked, and that the provoker was wrong to do so.

OP, assuming you're not a troll trolling against other trolls (which I commend if you are), you've messed up. Take a step back, look at your actions online, and learn your lesson. You can't undo damage you've done, especially if you don't even know what that might have been, but you can stop doing it. There's a line between trolling and bullying. Be careful not to cross it.
