I share the sentiment, though I like Sookie too. I just really like Tara, and dislike Bill. Less Sookie, less Bill.

I'm not sure. I prefer Tara as a character, but I guess they figure the whole standard Sookie/Bill romance was a good thing to have as the throughline down the middle? For all her powers, Sookie's a lot more bland. (Don't know about the books, of course.)

Actually, I agree with you. I don't find Sookie likable at all (she was a bit in the first season, but not since). Tara is the character you can sympathize with.

I sort of agree. Sookie just doesn't DO anything. Sometimes Tara infuriates me but she's always engaging as a character.

Then again, conventional wisdom says you're supposed to have a bland protagonist that everyone can relate to, and side characters that are much more interesting as people. But that's certainly not universal, and HBO is pretty experimental. I say hell yeah.

I don't like Sookie and prefer the books version (though I don't think highly of those either) but I also can't stand Tara in the show. So neither of them are my top choice for main character.

Well, Sookie annoyed me a lot in the show(never read the books, heard she's slightly better off there), but towards the end of the first season, Tara started getting on my nerves, too. Girl needs to get to a fucking therapist.

But the idea of a fantasy/sci-fi show featuring a black female being the main protagonist would be pretty damn awesome \O/ especially if it's a show about vampires/demons/the supernatural and she's a hunter :)

Tara is definitely my favourite. Like you, I have no problem with Sookie and I enjoy her character, but Tara, she is something stunning.

I think True blood doesn't really have a main character, or atleast since season two. Yeah, it did begin with Sookie and a lot of people are connected through her, but didn't Jason and Tara get as much screen time as Sookie and wasn't their story line an as much if not bigger part of the show?
I hate Suckay/Beel though, so i agree with less them and more everyone else
