Agreed, though! Cynicism is the easiest option. It's the laziest attitude to have. All you have to do is assume the worst about everyone and everything and dismiss anyone who challenges that as naive. Optimism and faith will always be tested, and take courage and resolve to maintain.

On a side note, Mal has me using words like "folk" a lot more. I want to sound like him =p

I agree with you that why can't we all just get along. But I don't see things changing.

I think what it is is that I have boundless faith in actual people, but there is nothing so despicable that I would find it surprising that a corporation or other such organization (e.g. a for-profit news agency) would do it. Basically I think the Man is keeping most folks down, I suppose.

Yeah, I may be a cynic, but I come to about the same conclusion. Especially considering Mal's side lost the war and now mostly lives in squalor and poverty.

The part about the corporations (which are run by greedy *people*) is basically what I was thinking. These days, it's more about throwing *anyone* under the bus, regardless of color, just to make a buck, for those 10% of people who own 90% of everything (and I don't know the figures exactly, that's probably an optomistic figure).

On the other hand, I think that there are probably *more* people today who would agree with that statement "we're all just folk now".

So...even if most of us are just patseys in the man's plot to sell us more widgets, maybe we can get along (better) while we're running this rat race? And while we're maxing out our credit cards, we can buy lots 'o Joss Wheadon merchandise that inspires us, and makes us at least slightly happier :-)
