I thought I was the only one thinking Keith was (is?) black.

when i first played i assumed Keith was black too.

i still go 'bwah?' when i see the gmod or redhead versions, just because they're so different from what was in my head. ^^;

Keith can be whoever you want to be, anon. Who's to say that he's not Black, Jewish, Hispanic or even Asian? The KKK hates anyone that's not white/Aryan. And when you have people THAT crazy, who's to say that they wouldn't be above stealing from their own race?

Besides, if he was black, he probably would have ended up dead rather than wounded.

From what I've gleaned from my google-fu this character isn't ever seen?
Unless it's specifically mentioned that he's black and people are just randomly drawing him differently (Which would be strange) I'd say it's probably pretty much up to each artist's image of the character.

i think the issue is that the artist's image is ALWAYS a white one... when in that part of the south, you're at least as likely (if not more likely) for it to be a black one.

(In the 2000 census[1] of Savannah, there were 131,510 people... The racial makeup of the city was 57.08% African American, 38.86% White... - this is from wikipedia, but you get my point)

I think it's sort of silly and in fact perhaps a little racist too to ASSUME he's black.

At the same time, I understand the annoyance that fandom tends to have a default setting for every character to be white (and often red-headed lol what is that). I don't know if anyone here was in HP fandom and remember the Blaise Zabini thing ... I don't think anyone EVER considered he might be black until the book when it was finally casually mentioned he was. XD

I'd like to know your logic here, man. I always assumed he was black - as well as the KKK quote it's statistically most likely. I don't see how this can possibly be racist. Fandom would be a lot more boring if nobody made any assumptions about characters.

I see no problem with imagining Keith being white/asian/whatever, but I can understand OP's annoyance when EVERY interpretation I've seen of him has been white. Especially when it seems to make less sense than him being black.

I've said this before, but I should really try drawing him sometime.

This idea sounds really interesting. You should go ahead and request this somewhere and see what you get. I'll admit, I'm kind of stuck on the scruffy GMod version (kind of cute for someone whose probably spent half his time in intensive care), but I want to see this.

Aside from this little side story, any particular reason, OP? Not trolling or anything-- just curious.

There's really nothing in the game that indicates Keith's race at all. For all we know, he could be the most striking shade of azure.

Graveyard story doesn't count. Because I really, truly doubt Valve's writers deliberately inserted a KKK joke. Because the studio is not retarded.

So what other explanation is there for that story?
