Yeah. Cause little girls and their teenage sisters constantly run away from home and become con girls for no reason whatsoever. Read between the lines. *rolls eyes*

besides, i figured, if there was some tragic reason for it and they wanted you to read that, it certainly would've come up again at some stage- you know, around the time we hear about the dead son?

anyway. it's cool that they manage to look after themselves ok, it's not cool that it's at the expense of everyone around them.

Not necessarily. The story's told through Columbus eyes. He only knows what the characters told him. The girls didn't look to me like the kind of person who reveals something that big after knowing someone for a few weeks.

I agree that what they did is wrong, but there's the possibility that even before the Zombies, they were doing what they were doing to survive. We're never told how young Wichita is, but there's the possibility that she was too young to work legally when they first run away and took up conning as way to feed themselves. They should have stopped once she was over sixteen, true.

Mostly what I mean is that we know very little about them, but that what we know suggests they had it difficult. I have trouble hating a character so young and so broken.

.... who really cares? i'm not going to debate the possibilities of what may or may not be their backstory, if they were even given one. the fact is, there is no explicit reason for it, and people are going to respond to their actual behaviour with that in mind.

the facts don't matter, what matters currently is our response to them, and so give it a rest as we already know that. you pity them, i'm ambivalent. wow. disagreement.

You said why you didn't like them, I pointed out a possible flaw in your argument. No need to get all prissy over this short debate, geeze.

considering i said 'possible' there was no flaw. possible means that i admitted that there could've been a reason and that it would invalidate that part.
Furthermore, ambivalent doesn't equal 'didn't like them' and 'prissy,' really? i hadn't realised i was getting 'excessively prim and proper'. must watch out for that. it's ever so hard to keep my inner british-lady in line.
