OMG Thank you! It's so nice to see someone say that Leonard is nice. I mean, duh, yes, he has his moments, but he has a good heart and is a genuinely decent guy. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who thinks that, though. :(

Aw, yay this thread has made my day <3333 Leonard isn't even my favorite character (In order: Howard, Raj, Leonard, Penny, Sheldon. I'm an anomaly in this fandom, I guess), I see way way way too much irrational hatred for the guy and it makes me sad.

Yes, thank you! The irrational hate BAFFLES me. Sheldon is a jerkass to the EXTREME and people make excuses for him, but Leonard puts one toe out of line, and it's all OMG WORST GUY EVER, and I'm like "Bzuh?" And I don't HATE Sheldon, either. But seriously, most of the time, Sheldon deserves what he gets.

Yes, I'm an anomaly too, I guess. ;)

Right. Leonard isn't perfect, but he's trying. For all people excuse Sheldon for "not knowing any better" (though I don't necessarily agree that's true all of the time), I think people forget that Leonard doesn't really have a healthy or well adjusted view of how relationships work either. We've all seen his mother, and heard about his parents. God he had to build himself a hug machine as a child! Growing up like that, it's not a huge revelation that relationships would be hard for him, but he clearly wants to change that. He's almost like a child learning how to function in this area for the first time. So he tries, and he falls on his face, and he gets frustrated; but he doesn't give up.

Oh, man, I almost cried during the episode where he talked about having to build a hugging machine. God, that was so sad to me, what a way for a child to have to grow up.

And I totally agree -- he's very naive about all kinds of things, and he makes some big mistakes and has a pretty ginormous set of issues to overcome -- but he TRIES. And he WANTS to be better, and knows he has room for improvement, which is a huge, important part of WHO HE IS. And I'm sad that he's so irrationally hated on. :(

This thread is making me feel better about life! LOL Leonard was the first character I fell in love with on the show, and he's the one that I, personally, relate to the most. Because he's TRYING to be good and nice and patient and kind, but people are DRIVING HIM INSANE. Sometimes, it makes him do not-so-good things. But does that make him a bad person? HELL NO.

I just want to give him hugs and cookies. <3

Right? I mean, I know the guy messes up sometimes, and he can mess up BADLY and do very not-good things. But in the end, he's TRYING. He's trying so hard, and I can't NOT love him.
