Ace died...

Bleackbeard captured Ace, got him shut into the worst prison in the world, Luffy gets separated from the crew but he decides to save Ace because the crew is safe-ish and Ace is due for execution because he's Gol D. Roger's son--
so there's a long arc where Luffy breaks into the prison, and then some bad stuff happens and he doesn't reach ace in time. So they're at Marines HQ and Ace is on an execution stand, then WHITEBEARD shows up with his crew and they JUST MANAGE to bust Ace out and everyone's retreating. And then one of the vice-admirals insults whitebeard, ace LOSES IT, gets careless, and gets PUNCHED THROUGH THE CHEST. And then he died.

MASSIVE SPOILERS: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
Ruffy found out that his brother(Ace)had been sent to Impel Down, this really big impenetrable prison for pirates. Ruffy goes to save Ace.
Ruffy finds allies in prison. Big, epic fights ensue.
Ace is being sent to be executed earlier than planned. Ruffy and allies follows. Fights ensues.
Whitebeard(Ace's captain)comes to Ace's rescue. Big, MASSIVE epic fights ensues.
Akainu(one of the admirals)tries to kill Ruffy(after Ruffy's managed to free Ace from schackles). Akainus Lava Fist goes through Ace(apparently that's his one weakness? I dunno).
Marine Headquarters Falls, Ace dies(presumably). Ruffy is having a HBSOD.
Oh yeah, and Ace's real father is Gold Roger, and Ruffy and Ace aren't blood related.
Aaaaand there was a bunch of other stuff too, but that would take me all night to write down.
