You don't get it. If someone isn't absolutely delighted to learn what a horrible, selfish, prejudiced, evil person they are inside, they're a privileged martyr.

Thank you for this. I totally don't get why, as I said above, people honestly get angry at privileged people getting defensive. Most people get defensive when called on long-standing bad habits, and harboring prejudices is a bad habit of thought.

("bad habit" makes it sound less than serious, and I don't mean that.)

It's perfectly natural to flip out a bit in response to this sort of thing, even if you're the kind of person who'd really want to know.

It's like people are giving someone a shot that's important and necessary and then getting all insulted and snarking "Cry moar!" when the person goes "Fuck, ow."
