Sure they do. Sociopaths are "crazy", and they're pretty immoral. And education plays a huge factor in how one understands the world and the issues and prejudices in society.

Sociopaths are "crazy", and they're pretty immoral

Yes, because all crazy people are sociopaths. People with mental illness can be immoral but, on the whole, we're not any better or worse than any other group of people.

(Besides, sociopathy is a personality disorder that has little effect on the accuracy of someone's perception. Normally, when a person wonders if they're 'crazy,' they're questioning whether or not their worldview actually meshes with objective reality. So it's unlikely that the OP was worried that they were a sociopath.)

Being uneducated doesn't have any sort of moral judgment attached to it (unless, say, the person chooses to be uneducated, but we don't know the circumstances behind what the OP was saying, so let's just assume it's not a choice). Neither does being "crazy." I don't think anyone could argue that a person who is uneducated due to circumstances beyond their control is immoral. However, being racist or misogynistic (or selfish, I guess) definitely has moral implications attached to it.

Anyways, I don't think sociopaths are supposed to be immoral, from what I understand they are amoral. It's not that they have inherently bad morals, they just don't get the concept of "morality" as a whole.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Which makes them evil and bad, and if you don't hate them you're a horrible person and should die

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
No, it means that they're serial killers and should be executed immediately.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Not all sociopaths are serial killers. Kind of like not all pedophiles are child molesters.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
That was kinda my point. Obviously my sarcasm failed.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Being uneducated doesn't have any sort of moral judgment attached to it...Neither does being "crazy."

They certainly did in the community I grew up in. Both were regarded as failures of character, and the failure to immediately fix your lack of education or craziness upon having it pointed out to you was constructed as indicative of poor moral fortitude. (This was especially fun since mental illness and learning disabilities run in my family.)

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
lol, even the comment you're replying to implies that completely. If you don't choose to go to college and get a degree or whatever, you're a bad person.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying that choosing not to educate yourself is inherently immoral. More like, I can see how a case could be made for it in regards to the other issues that the secret presents (racism and misogyny). Sorry for that, I wasn't really thinking about education as a whole, mainly just education in regards to those issues. And even then, I never said it was definitely immoral, just that I could see someone making an argument that willful ignorance is, in fact, immoral.

I definitely don't think someone choosing not to get a degree is immoral. But I can see how someone realizing that they have ignorant and racist beliefs, but choosing not to in any way learn and rectify that and just continuing to be ignorant because it's easier for them, would be immoral.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
But even then, it seems that being "crazy" or uneducated isn't having bad morals. In this case it's not being "crazy" or uneducated that is immoral, it's choosing not to immediately "fix" it. (Just so you know, I'm speaking from their morality-POV and most definitely not mine. For the record I totally don't agree and think that is total bullshit. I hope that makes sense. I'm definitely not saying that I think you would be immoral if you didn't...I don't know, go to college or..."fix" any sort of "craziness." Because I don't think it would be in any way immoral. Blegh, I hope you know what I'm getting at here, and I'm just just deep throating my own foot.)

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
I do get what you're saying, no worries. The thing is, though, I can totally see how someone who grew up in a similar environment to the one I did would parse "uneducated" and "crazy" as moral questions. You're looking at this from a place of logic and calm. A person who has been presented with evidence that they are, by the (unquestionably fucked up, but that's beside the point) definitions they were raised with, a bad person is not approaching anything from a place of logic and calm.

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
That is true, and a very good point that I wasn't really thinking about. I can definitely see how someone could come to that conclusion due to growing up in those circumstances.

And that just makes me stomach hurt. Sigh, why do people have to be so unpleasant sometimes?
