I stopped reading Kuroshitsuji after a few chapters for the exact same reasons, but now I am curious about this character! Maybe I'll try reading it again...

yes you should, Madam Red was what made Kuroshitsuji not terrible and bland to me (and it does get better past that point, too.)

I didn't find her story particularly moving, to be honest. To me it felt kind of a clunky attempt at drama, but she did have charisma and I understand why others would like her. And no, it's not because she doesn't have a dick, my biggest crush in this series is probably Beast (whose story isn't that original and compelling either, probably, but it just works for me.)
And the manga gets a lot better as it progresses. It does start out silly and a bit n00bish, but Toboso is getting much better really fast. Everybody loves the circus arc for a reason.

I love Madam Red and I loved her story too! It's what made me fall for her, and it's such a pity that she died. That's my only disappointment is right when I like the character they die (Happened to Joker and Beast.)

But I just love her story... and the line, "I saw the color that I hated the most..." =(

I care, OP. ): I cried during her funeral and the scenes of her life reel when they were shown. She and Joker/Beast are probably my favorite characters. It's funny, because by now with that series I have learned not to get attached to the humans, but something about the human characters just gives them an extra dimension the gods and demons lack. It's that hope and despair that they have... the way they try to do everything they want in life with what little time they are offered as humans... I think it makes them much more interesting than the other characters. And the fact that the best ones have already died makes it a real tragedy.

But yeah, I love Madam Red. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. <3
