I don't ship them, but what you've described was exactly what was great about Spike being added to Angel in season 5. Angel/Spike bickering is always amusing. ALWAYS.

Oh, I love their dorky moments and their angst! If you had one without the other, it'd be no fun!

Actually, I think I prefer their "old married couple" moments to their angsty moments (though I loved all their flashbacks, for some reason).

I don't watch Buffy or Angel, but I was delighted when I saw that Whedon said they were "open-minded guys" and had been hanging out for thousands of years or whatever, so they'd probably hooked up...but that sounds more like amusingly casual why-not reasoning, not angst-y soulmate-y stuff, you know? Like, 'oh, you know, there's nothing playing at the Globe tonight, shall we give it a bash?'

I agree with you so much. And while I don't read a lot of BtVS/AtS fic, I know what it's like to see one of your ships in a completely different light than 99% of its fandom, and it sure gets tiresome. So, hum, sorry, OP.

THIS IS WHY I SHIP THEM SO HARD. <3 Sure, there'd have to be some angst, but what I like most of all about the ship is that it could be FUN. I like they're bickering and general snarkiness towards each other.

I don't watch the show, but I totally get what you mean - sometimes silly ligth-hearted exchanges can be much more entertaining than angsty soulmate bs ever could.

I totally agree, but I guess if they put the angst in there, somebody must've been eating it up :/

Hey, you're not alone! I like angst sometimes, but what I really loved about their relationship was how they would banter.

I love it. I don't ship it either, but I love moments like cavemen vs. astronauts. The single Spike scene in Smile Time? "YOU'RE A WEE LITTLE PUPPET MAN!" So much love. *two thumbs up*

That's why I love them! And if I shipped them hard (I think they probably had sex, they definitely have a connection, I just don't read fic or participate in the fandom for it) it would be for your reasons. I loved the Cavemen v. Astronauts debate, and basically all of season 5 of Angel. I love how they seem all broody and vampirey and then are totally an old married couple with no socail skills 'cause they're kind of lame and yet SO AWESOME! And yeah... I'm just gonna go watch some Angel now 'cause I'm nostalgic!

WORD. I don't really read anything in the BtVS or Angel fandom despite absolutely loving the tv series because finding fic that captures the humour of the series rather than the angst seems like such a monster task.

I like Angel much more as a character in his scenes with Spike; seeing him whine and bitch is a lot more entertaining than his SRS face.
