You can't possibly be "insanely close" to them if you don't want to talk to them anymore now that their interests have changed. If you're really close to someone you keep talking to them no matter what they're into. In fact, it makes me wonder if you're that person who stopped talking to me after I dropped a RP we were in, even after that long conversation we had about how internet friends totally count as real friends. Which kind of offended me, not gonna lie.

Tastes change all the time. If you want to be friends with someone, you need to base it on more than exactly one activity.

I totally agree. A friend of mine won't stop harping about an RP I left three years ago. Three years! I'm sorry but I'm just not interested anymore. I think it's more difficult when it's a smaller fandom (as ours was) and there are fewer people to RP with.

I know what you mean, anon. I feel like sometimes my RP partners just don't take it as seriously as I do. Not that it's ZOMG COMPLETELY SRSBSNS all the time, but I really try as hard as I can to write as well as I can when I'm RPing and I can get really into it, so when someone who's supposed to be my friend just up and drops our RP it can really hurt my feelings.

I agree with what people have been saying, though: you should definitely talk to them. If you're very close friends then I'm sure they'll understand.

I know you're hurt but it basically sounds like you put more emphasis on RP then you do friendship. Which I'm sorry, are messed up priorities.

If you don't, then talk to your friend. Sometimes people just honestly lose interest and it has nothing to do with you. Talk it out and move on.

If it's so unbearable to talk maybe you weren't that close friends in the first place? Ask him/her about it, at least then you'll know for sure.

Thing is, sometimes it's not so much about the RP (or whatever) as the person suddenly disappearing without a trace.

I don't understand people who drop friends when some one thing they were doing is no longer interesting to them.

Not the OP, but I got into a similar situation with a friend who, when asked about it, refused to talk about it and kept shutting down the conversation every time I tried to figure out what went wrong. So there's that, also.

Friendship is a two-way street. The person may be dropping the RP because they genuinely straight up don't give a crap.

Sorry that happened to you and if that's really the case with the OP as well then I think the other party is being a huge asshole. Dropping a RP =/= dropping a friendship.

But having been on the other side of such a situation myself I can also say: you'll lose all your sympathy the moment someone tries and make you feel guilty for deleting icons from ~your beloved shared fandom~. Or giving you hell for a RP that's been abandonded for over a year.

As you said: it's always a two-way street.

I don't care if you're in my fandom or not" and they say "Of course!" and then ignore you and act all uncomfortable the minute you say "Hi," uh... maybe it makes sense when you react with "Uh, could you just have told me we're not friends in a mature, direct way, please?"
