I only recently got into House and I feel awfully like I missed the boat on the fun part of this fandom.

Has the House fandom EVER been fun? I'm not being snarky; I've been a fan of House since the first season, and yet I've always found the fandom to be insane. And not the good kind of insane.

Really?! Ever been in HP fandom? Or Twilight? Or Supernatural? Or Glee? Or pretty much any of 'em? With great fun comes great wankery, and now that I'm hardcore into SPN as well as HP, which I'd argue are two of the heaviest hitters, as it were, I realize that it's just far too easy to ignore the crazy and have fun for this to be a fair argument. Sorry, but really. Flounce if you like, but c'mon.

I'm new to HP and Twilight fandoms, but so far I haven't seen the level of HATE I've seen in the House fandom with the House/Wilson vs House/Cuddy dilemma. I left the House fandom because everyone was just being too cruel to each other and so *vicious* about things. The show went to hell, but I would've stayed in the fandom anyways if things hadn't turned into WWIII.

Gee, I hope I've missed that part of HP and Twilight! lol I've barely been in Twilight for two months and HP for only six. But so far both seem fairly awesome. Especially Harry Potter people. HP fans and Trekkies/Trekkers (another new fandom for me) are some of the most awesome internet people I know! :)

I just stay off the comms and have discussions and write fic with my friends who are kind and sane; problem solved.

My f-list is my oasis of House-fandom happiness.

None of these are my fandoms, but as a Doctor Who fan, I definitely know from wanky fandom and... this has been my path to a fun fandom experience as well (can I say fandom a few more times in that sentence?). I found a bunch of people I liked, those who were from an off-lj forum were heavily encouraged to get LJs, I friended all around, developed a happy circle of fandom friends and now only go to comms when I want to get some news. Fandom is a hobby, it's for fun, and people who treat it like it's their damn job to wank all over anyone who might have a differing opinion I've got no time for.

Hi, Anon! Old-school Who fan here, myself; I don't have the cable channel to see the current series, so I'm not in the fandom for new Who at present. Seen a lot of Eccleston's year on DVD though, and I adore him.

There is, yes, a lot to be said for hiding in one's happy fandom cave with one's friends, roasting marshmallows and telling stories.

Now is House/Wilson VS House/Cuddy? xD

Back in the day they were both allied against House/Cameron LOL.

The only thing I notice not being fun about the fandom is people complaining about the fandom.

Hm. I hadn't heard anything about this, and given how popular she is, I'm a little surprised.

Not the first time she's flounced; likely won't be the last.

Reviews to her latest fic over at ff.net would seem to indicate that she has indeed flounced. For the same old reason. People don't "respect" her work on LJ.

There were three goodbye posts. I kept thinking how odd it was that my flist didn't have new posts, because I kept seeing her goodbye at the top. Took me hours to finally notice it was multiple posts.

Now it's just the one.

And since this comm updates on what, a one week delay? Planning went into this.

Haven't seen the show in ages, never been in the fandom... and this is exactly what my first thought was.

House fandom has a few fun things, but they're few and far between. I kind of miss the crazy awesome the HP fandom used to bring.

I've never really been able to get into House fandom the way I have others.

It seemed to me - and still does when, in a fleeting fit of hope and faith in the underlying generosity of the human spirit, I venture up to the edges and peek in once more - that many in the fandom, and definitely many of the more vocal members, seem to have their over-sized pairing blinkers constantly fitted to block out anything that could possibly get past their rose-tinted, entitled sense of what they believe is the only possible way to interpret canon.

And they're not afraid to use just plain mean and ignorant actions and words to puff their own ideologies up well beyond any legitimate points or even fun that they may have been based on.

House is in no way alone in this phenomenon, nor does it consist wholly of it, but it is definitely the worst fandom I've encountered when it comes to that kind of behaviour, and it has soured my own experience of the show as more of a fannish experience than just some TV I like to watch.

The show is but a shadow of what it once was, but there's still nuggets to be found and a few decent pairings to ship and even potential yummies to found in the future.

The fandom's always been a bit wanky, but I think it's being exacerbated these days by a mixture of fanservice by the creators and entitlement on the part of certain shippers. Guess what guys...canon slash ain't gonna happen no matter how much St. Doris titillates your tushes with falling anvils. And we're all better off that way.

Hey, take it easy! If you stayed in this fandom for that long, it might be because the fandom is good for you. Seems like you've been having trouble for awhile, but, seriously, does that mean you have to leave it? Maybe you should stick around to show your point to other people. And I'm sure there are people in the fandom who think a bit like you and have similar opinions.
