Okay, I can see where you're coming from, but X-Files is a large fandom with a lot of fic to choose from and which tends to have a more, er, mature fanbase, but it's hardly the *only* fandom where that's the case. It may be the only fandom where that's the case that you like, and that's fine. Rather than there being one fandom that's got better fic than every other fandom eveaaaar, I think there's probably several fandoms that have higher-than-your-average-fandom quality fic, just because of the nature of the source material and the length time the fandom's been around.

I would say the one fandom I've seen compete, in pure literary quality, would be Battlestar Galactica. There are definitely authors who are amazing in all fandoms, but as a whole I just have to give it to the X-Files fanfic. Plus, there are an incredible amount of novel length pieces that are stellar. It's rare to find even a few in most fandoms that are good.
