Conservatives that are willing for their business to go possibly go under standing up for peoples ability to post adult material on their journals? And willing to host Scans_daily? If Dreamwidth is run by conservatives they must be Bizarro world conservatives.

One conservative, singular. The two of them have said before that their political views tend to be diametrically opposite of each other. In any case, I get the impression that he's conservative more in the libertarian sense, not the religious fundie sense, so it all fits.

Ok thanks for explaining this I too was confused.

Not that this transfers over to my feelings about DW, but sometimes I hate libertarians almost as much as I hate the fundies.

Just for this secret, I joined up. So there, OP.

OH NO. CONSERVATIVES. I hear that they fly and eat babies.

Re: 160

(Anonymous) 2010-03-17 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No no, you've got it all wrong. They have flippers from all the inbreeding and they infect you with babies that you're not allowed to abort. Flipper babies for everyone!

I'm going to name mine 'Wally'.

If conservatives running businesses bothers you so much, OP, then I hope you never buy a product or service ever again.

Pretty much this. Time to move to Sealand, OP.

Seriously. Either OP is being disingenuous, or OP is in for a WORLD of shock.

Re: 160

[identity profile] kitty-wake.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I must've been using DW for a year and I never knew it had conservatives... and guess what? I don't care, OP!

Re: 160

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even know they allowed conservatives to run websites. They could be recruiting children!

Re: 160

[identity profile] a-wittyusername.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I really hope you don't intend on shopping anywhere, ever OP.

Because nearly every corp is run by conservatives. It's part of doing business in a capitalistic society. It doesn't mean that they're bad people, or don't want to make the world a better place, and don't support equality, just that they're in business. And the point of business is to make money. and making money in capitalism is an inherently right-leaning trait.

Yeah, cause it's so terrible to support people who actually go to the wall to support their mission statements, tell paypal and google that they aren't going to compromise their beliefs so they'll just find a new vendor, and are generally just nice people.

It just bothers me that people paint all conservatives with the same brush. And really I've never met a libertarian (if that's what he is as is suggested) that gave a flying fuck about a person's religion, sexual orientation, or race. They just tend to be very fond of small government and everything that entails. Perhaps I am related to/work with the wrong sorts of libertarians?

Re: 160

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I wish the libertarians would rise up and take back the Republican party from the religious zealots or else become a truly viable third party. Theoretically I'm a hardcore liberal but the Dems suck almost as bad as the Repubs. :\

Re: 160

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
You guys need at least two new parties. The Democrats and Republicans are so... ideologically hollow. So often their rhetoric is completely lacking in substantive POLITICAL content.

Re: 160

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
For me, it's less that he's a conservative, and more that their business plan will absolutely fail, the site will go down, and everyone will come back here anyway. So it's easier to just sit back and *popcorn* over the whole thing.

Re: 160

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting prediction. I have serious doubts about the long term viability of LJ/DW blog sites, both in terms of social networking and in terms of providing a home for fandom. Don't count on people coming back to LJ - they may move somewhere entirely new.

IDK, I don't see why it would be so surprising. Based on the extremely sketchy idea I have about DW, I wouldn't be particularly shocked to find out that it's run by a loose coalition of conspiracy theorists living in hidden underground bunkers with homemade power generators who refuse to pay taxes and also are training a secret militia in case some governmental authorities try to enforce copyright laws at them against their will.

Well. Perhaps I should reiterate that my knowledge about DW is extremely, extremely sketchy.

...But what I think I'm trying to say, is: in my head, if Rorschach from Watchmen belonged to an online journaling community, he would belong to Dreamwidth. Therefore: adorably wacky right wing separatists in bunkers self-publishing their manifestos.

No, I'm sorry, I've been drinking and I can't show my work right now, but trust me -- the math works out!!
