There was one where they were stranded in a bus in some desert and there was another one where the titanic or something fell on parliament or..something..? And it was like "people's fat has come to life and taken over the world!" I was like. WAT.

Those are two of the (worst) christmas specials. Voyage of the Damned (the titanic one) and Planet of the Dead (the desert one).

Those are the two worst possible things that you could have watched to get the feel of Doctor Who.

Seriously. SERIOUSLY. I advise really giving it another chance. Maybe even starting with Christopher Eccleston's first episode.

ps: I'm not trying to push it on you. Just truthfully, those are probably the two worst episodes (specials) that Doctor Who has done.

OMG how did you manage to pick two horrible episodes out like that? Is it some talent of yours?? XD At least it wasn't Love & Monsters ... I guess

edit: Although from your description of the second episode I'm thinking it's not actually Voyage of the Damned you saw, but possibly Turn Left? since you mentioned Adipose ... Turn Left is actually a good episode, but it's a "what if?" universe in which the Doctor had died at a certain point in the past. So it's full of references to previous episodes that would be weird to a newbie.

Try starting with New Season One. Chris Eccleston, the 9th Doctor. The first episode is called "Rose".
