What shocks last year isn't going to shock next year. Once upon a time, the fact that characters were being depicted as gay (despite canonical heterosexual relationships) were shocking enough, because homosexuality was still something of a taboo. People are now, by and large, a lot more liberal than they used to be. Gay characters in taboo aren't a taboo. In fact, these days it's taken for granted that all characters are bi unless proven otherwise (which is a rather lazy attitude, since it doesn't call for interpretation, just assumption).
So they've moved on to other things that still are taboo. Incest, rape, pedophilia, etc. Only the difference is, these things really ARE what conservative fuckwits claimed homosexuality is: disgusting, immoral, illegal, etc.
But they don't see that, they just see the reaction it gets, both from themselves and from others. Fantasies are escalatory in nature. Two guys kissing just doesn't do it for some people after they've seen so much of it. Now it has to be an older guy raping his underage brother, just so they can get off like they used to without feeling vanilla.
And if you call them on this, they just say "My kink is not your kink, etc". But I don't consider rape and incest kinks. Bondage is a kink, uniforms are a kink, dirty talk is a kink, rape and incest are felonies. There's a big difference.
