idk not trying to start a debate or anything, but listening to MCR has never made me ~sad and depressed and emo~ They actually have a number of songs that inspire me (Famous Last Words especially). And I've been a GBS fan since I was itty, Consequence Free never fails to make my day 10x better, and whenever I see the Newfoundland commercial they're in I smile.

OP I AM VERY HAPPY that you are a GBS fan. They really need more love. I don't even know if they're popular outside of Canada to begin with?

They do play shows in the US sometimes from what I hear, but I don't know if they have as many fans as they do in Canada.

They play in the States, yeah. I wish they'd come down further South (if we could ever get them for the Festival International down here in Louisiana, it would be epic. Newfoundlanders, Acadians...we used to be neighbors, y'know!), but I was lucky enough to see them in North Carolina when I was in college once.

I say lucky not only because GBS does a great concert, but because the DVDs had me expecting a gianormous stadium. But since they're not as well-known down South, it was this 400-person venue with me and my best friend front row, stage Alan, less than three feet away from the gorgeous Mr. Doyle himself once the dancing started.

They really do need to come out to California more often as well. The very first time that I saw that they would be anywhere near me was last November, and I jumped all over getting tickets. They really do do a great show.

Also, random rant: my best friend's dad plays in a celtic band and they once ran into GBS at a local bar and had a drink with them *head explodes*

...I still haven't forgiven him for not getting Alan Doyle to call me, because apparently they had him phoning random people that they knew D:

I've only liked "Welcome to the Black Parade" by MCR, and have liked almost every GBS song except for maybe two. No offense to MCR, sometimes you need some hardcore music to make yourself feel better, but Great Big Sea is much more my thing. Their songs make me happy, or just make me want to sing along with their more serious songs, like "Dream to Live" or "Banks of Newfoundland"

Used to be so into them! Oddly my waning involvement has coincided with them absorbing a member of Moxy Fruvous who were huuge in my life, so I'm sad I've missed out on seeing that incarnation, heh.

I felt like their evolution was getting too poppy and less trad for my tastes (not that I only wanted trad songs, but that FEEL). I should go back and catch up and see how I feel now. They were always a riotously good show.

Awesome! They are my all time favorite band. Back in college, my room mates (and probably most of campus) knew when I had a bad day as I'd start blaring "Ordinary Day." After I discovered them, I learned that I had actually read about them a year or so before and could have seen them about 3 times in that period if I'd just been paying more attention. I love introducing people to them as well. They seem to be insanely popular in Minnesota (though I guess to some people, we're almost Canada anyway).
