Your ignorance of a common turn of phrase, which dates back to the 1500s, and has literally no racial meaning at all (what does a shovel have to do with race?) is no excuse for acting like a dickwad. These people are reasonably stating that they were unaware of the racial connotations of the phrase. This is understandable, because there ARE NO racial connotations to this phrase (except when people like you MISUNDERSTAND it, and assume it is referring to something else entirely).

This is what pisses me off about certain Americans. What's with the fucking entitlement? Why do I have to know every detail of your culture? Let's see how cultured you are: can you say what's the worst current racial insult in France? In China? In India? In South Africa? In Chile? What about historically then? What do you know about racial problems in Europe in the 1960's? Zip, nothing. you know (and care) about these things about as much as I care about American culture in the 1960's.

Can you please stop assuming that you're the most important culture in the world? You're popular, sure, but not that important. Believe it or not, we don't learn about the US in school beyond basic world history because we have more important things to learn, like our own history and culture.

It's a secret about a USof American actress and people discussing what might be very well a very couched slur in the English language, and very possibly USof American given the subject matter and percentage of USof Americans on here. Glad you could add your two cents about Americans and your feelings about entitlement-- we needed that, 'cause there wasn't enough.
