Under further consideration, I concede that I understand the difference between these different concepts, but I'm still hesitant to write it off because I feel really strongly about the issue and I still see it as discrimination against an ethnic group. It's giving me a lot of food for thought.

Why'd you delete your original post, out of curiosity?

I didn't. That's the second comment of mind that disappeared. But my connection's being iffy and lj's been weird for me for days. IDK.

Personally, I get more than a little annoyed when people compare the history of Irish-Americans to the history of PoC in America, because I don't find them remotely comparable in scale, severity, or endurance, and I find the comparison by definition tenuous at best.

I agree that it's not comparable in those senses, but when you say things like "white people have never experienced racism," it will be used as an example, and can be comparable by some definitions. Perhaps not your own, but some.

Thanks for the civil response, at least. I'm trying to be pretty careful with my replies, because I still have the nagging feeling that I'm wrong.
