I thought it was sad when she left, too, but I was more affected by Spike's death because of how he went out and the song that played right after.

This was pretty much me. I was very sad about Spike and the whole series' ending, but I think I cried so much more during the end of this episode. I think because I love the song so much.

Thanks to the song and the dialogue, I didn't see it as Ed leaving so much as her going away for a while to learn more about who she is and what she wants to do. She wasn't sad herself, either--she seemed serious for once, which I thought was cool. I could see her meeting up again with everyone else someday, so I guess I thought it was more bittersweet than sad.

Yeah, the way that episode ends, with the song and all the emotional build-up, makes it very sad to watch. Ed was like a little ray of rambunctious sunshine, and to see her leave that group makes an impact that's hard to ignore.
