Long story short, he bleached his hair and fandom went ape shit. Most people's freakouts were in fan comms where he wasn't likely to find it but a precious dumbass few kept twitterspamming him with really mean messages about how he's dead to them and asking if he's on drugs again. But he said in a recent interview (http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/player/7822/noel_fielding_interview_at_the_teenage_cancer_trust_comedy_night_2010.html) that it was because of people personally attacking other people he knew (most likely his new girlfriend and probably his old one) and it wasn't worth it.

Oh, I guess long story is long. tl;dr, there are some really batshit Fielding fangirls who ruined it for the rest of us.

I'm not familiar with Fielding at all but I have to say that's some major overreacting right there on the fandom's part. I feel sorry for the fans without that ridiculous sense of self-entitlement, but I'm not surprised he made such a choice if it got that bad. Hair dye, good grief, what's next.

Totally agreed. And I've been in fandom vaguely for a short amount of time; just can't believe fans would drive him away like that. If you like and admire someone enough, why be rude and disrespectful? Doesn't make any sense at all.
