Holyshit, this. I mean, it doesn't happen too much; I usually get at least a couple comments, (now that I've crawled out of the hole I've been hiding in for a little while), but still, I tend to get those posts where I think it's going to be totally awesome, and then nobody comments and I just get so paranoid and ashamed.


And yeah, I think for the most part it's my fear of looking stupid that somehow translates into the fic/art/the way I promote it. Or my shyness at really striking up conversation with commenters for fear of looking stupid... which is most definitely a self fulfilling prophecy because basically the only way to get more recognition for your fic is to leave a lot of comments on others' fics (I am such a lurker; never know quite what to say, always feel like an intruder by commenting, irrational fears galore, etc), respond to a lot of comments (NEVER KNOW WHAT TO SAY!), and build up a spot in the community. Those of us with social anxiety have to overcome our difficulties in that.

The only real way to get over it is to keep doing it. No matter how dumb you feel. You figure it out eventually.
