Don't get why you have to rely on celebrities and compliments for them to help your self-esteem. If someone called her ugly because of her big nose, would you take the personally too? Plus you're using her as a crutch when you should find stuff you like about you, not stuff/body parts that other people have that they get complimented for.

It's a way of learning to like yourself.

When you don't like something about yourself, it can get very hard to learn to deal with it without any support from others. When a random stranger calls you beautiful, do you think "Well, duh" or does it brighten your day?

When you don't like something about yourself, the thing you don't like is all you see. "Oh, no one will ever like me because I have such thick eyebrows/large nose/big butt/fat ankles/so much acne etc" You try accepting yourself as you are but the more you think about the thing you don't like, the more you hate it and maybe even hate yourself for hating it. But you just can't stop.
We all have something we don't like about ourselves.

But here's the deal with celebrities. They're in the public eye. As many people criticize them as give them praise. They can be inspirational and help you believe in yourself. If someone calls the celebrity ugly, then who cares. However, if you think you're ugly and no one has ever said you're not, but then you see someone popular who everyone calls beautiful and, well, you look a lot like, then it helps. It makes you think, "If people call HER pretty, I must also be pretty!"

My reply is all over the place, but I hope it's at least somewhat understandable.
