147 Who says a mother can't be in a fandom? That's just plain silly. I'm a mom and still ship with the best of them :)

I'm missing the point, too.

Will she be too busy? Does she think fandom is only for kids?

I mean, yes, I get that she should be looking forward to her kid and welcoming it with love, but I don't see why the two are in conflict.

I agree. I know a lot of parents who are fans. (Many of whom are raising mini-fans.) You may be a bit wrapped up in baby stuff for a little while, OP, but eventually the kid is going to start talking, and next thing you know, you'll be passing over the Asimov...

My advice, OP? Stop looking at leaving fandom, and start thinking about the parts you want to share with the new Fan in the making.

I agree with this. I don't really want kids, but if I had one for whatever reason, I'd have so much fun indoctrinating it into fandom :)

I'm not worried about no longer being able to be a fan after the baby's born - of course I'm still going to be a fan; having a kid has nothing to do with that.

It's honestly about the perspective of having to completely change my priorities (wrt time, money and everything else). Even after getting married I still had a lot of time to spend with other fen online because my husband travels a lot, and... I just feel guilty about being sad about this having to change. (Argh, I fail English today; hopefully this is coherent enough...)
