I just want to see it because I love Avatar, and even if the movie sucks, hey, WE GOT A MOVIE. One in THEATERS.

It's kinda like how I love Heath Ledger, and therefor own Monster's Ball even though I thought the movie was horrible and will probably never watch it again.

Yeah. I'm still not going to buy a ticket because I don't want to monetarily support the casting decisions. But I may still download it out of curiosity if it's going to take itself more seriously.

I'm just tired of being treated like some kind of blasphemer because I expect a show about war, of all things, to treat the subject with a lot more maturity than Avatar ever tried to.

I intend to see it because, though the casting may suck, whether I see it or not will not make the casting go away. I also refuse to fight racism with theivery.

It's the lesser of two evils for me. An already filthy rich Hollywood director losing a couple of lattes' worth on my potential ticket is not quite as bad to me as a tacit endorsement of his casting practices ("I approve and I want to see more whitewashing, and I'm saying so with my wallet"). If there was a way I could legally see the film without paying (like winning free tickets or something), I would.

I don't hate my family enough to risk the massive amounts of debt they would be in if I got caught pirating movies.

And it's not about the director at all. It's simple: Stealing is wrong, and, unlike the crappy casting, there's actually something I can do about it this time.

Eh, if you're worried about getting caught, you're using the wrong viewing channels for one thing. And while stealing is wrong (I did say "two evils"), in this case I don't think it's as wrong as directly supporting and approving of a blatantly racist venture. One is only "hurting" the director's bottom line. The other is contributing to a widespread problem that hurts lots and lots of people every day.

Doesn't matter. You don't fight evil with evil. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind

Re: 142

I don't know if that's such a bad thing. Maybe if the whole world was blind, we'd have less racism in it.

That is a good point that has almost nothing to do with the metaphor and current line of discussion.

You do realize that your disapproval is just as tacit unless you're letting people (actual important film people, not random internet folk) know you're a lost customer because of the race!fail, right?

Considering how evident it is that Shyamalan knows about the widespread disapproval but doesn't seem to care a whit, I'm pretty sure the e-mail I sent is going straight to the round file anyway.
