OP for 142: they read the script, especially because its so much DARKER and EDGIER.

The script being darker and more mature than the series makes me consider giving it a pirated chance. The cartoon was okay for a kids' show, but I found most of it far too sugarcoated for my liking.

Really? Well, if you squint at times you CAN see some more "mature" stuff...actually you don't even HAVE to squint at all.
I dunno, for a kid series you can only do so much with dark and mature themes, and it did it well - the one with Appa being abused at the circus comes to my mind.

It tried to tackle the mature subjects, I'll give it that. But it would only go so far before it swept the aspects that did not mesh too well with heavy-handed good-vs.-evil Western moralizing neatly under the rug, and that part of it irritated me quite a bit.
