There's more to abuse than just physical abuse. The way Cid yelled and insulted Shera in the first scenes the two of them are in has plenty of verbal and emotional abuse.

Personally, I'd like to think Cid did a turnaround and was better to her after the end of the game or else their canon marriage in the Compilation is not going to end up going downhill sooner or later.

It seems fair to assume he did. For one, he named his airship after her. :D

Yeah. While I don't have problems with the pairing, I'm not blind to the lack of development it has and the likely issues one can read into it.

That's my main beef with the post-VII Compilation bits (pre-VII is a whole 'nother can of worms). They don't explain anything, except in books that, face it, aren't like to every be officially translated. >:(

I keep hearing that one of the huge faults is that Nomura took over managing the storyline when the original game was written by someone else (whose name eludes me).
