5. As a huge Cid fan, yeah, he treated her like dirt and did pretty much verbally abuse her, I have no illusions about that, but I found her just as much at fault in the fact that she just took it and never stood up for herself, which, IMHO, made her a pretty damn uninteresting character. I mean, yeah, she saved Cid's life, but she did it in such a way that she was knowingly putting him in a position where he had to either throw her life away or throw his life-long dream away (and since he is a good person at heart, he did choose her life) without any warning at all, and... yeah, the woman has issues. (Why not just tell him right before the liftoff?)

Cid does make a big turnaround at the end of his plot arc, though, so I think it's really unfair of you to think he's this abuse-all wifebeater, wtf. I mean, I like Vincent/Cid, not because I think it has canon evidence, but because I think it makes for an interesting relationship, and I'm not rabid about it or anything, but I don't think Vincent would have to "fight back," because although Cid is a crude and crass individual, the only person we seem him actually abuse in the entire game is Shera, and there's a whole shitload of backstory and reason for that. Not an excuse on his part, but a reason, and he certainly realizes his error in the end, so your implying that he's this asshole with no redeeming qualities is completely inaccurate.

All of that said, yeah, I dislike Cid/Shera as well, not because I sympathize with Shera and not because I hate her, but because they do have that complicated and emotionally-scarred history and because I don't think the dynamic is all that interesting. More than the fact that I hate how Compilation made it canon, I hate how they portray it as yayayayaypairing without any kind of realistic time in-between them being in a dysfunctional relationship and them being... a yayayayaypairing. Makes things concrete that are completely out-of-character and basically turns Cid into a caricature.

12. I LOVE YOU. I mean, I don't know if there's any Compilation basis for this, but my friend and I did a crack one-on-one Rufus/Reeve roleplay a while back and... IT WAS AWESOME.

Ahaha. It's neat to find so many people that disagree with 5 and agree with 12. X)

First off, re: 5.: yes, yes, thank you! Though I do disagree on the 'yayayayaypairing' part. There's two long years between the end of FFVII and Advent Children, when we first see Cid again, and it's.... I'm not certain which word I'm looking for (I'm TIRED), so I'll say unfair. It's unfair to assume that the development didn't occur, and that they didn't have any rough spots. Unfortunately, Squeenix is never likely to elaborate upon that--unless they already have in some never-to-be-officially translated short story (like Maiden Who Traveled The Planet, god!). In which case, uh, ignore me. :x

Second: Out of curiosity, did you play Rufus, or Reeve?

First off: Yaaaay, support for my tl;dr rant. 8D Yeah, I see your point, but I dunno, with all the messed-upness going on in their relationship in FFVII, I guess I feel it'd take more than two years for them to develop a healthy, intimate relationship, let alone be married. D: Then again, I don't find the dynamic that interesting, so I'm kinda biased. >_>;

Second: I played Rufus! XD It was like... this crack (before AC came out) where it was post-FFVII and they had been forced to work at a coffee shop at the Golden Saucer after Shin-Ra went kaput? And then they got into this fight for no reason and ended up having angry sex behind the pasty stand---I SOUND TOTALLY INSANE, DON'T I. D: I swear, they were surprisingly in character. XD; And it's funny that someone in a comment below mentioned that the pairing was only good when it was based on snark rather than fluff, because DAMN was our RP like. SNARKSNARKSNARK. <3

Oh god. :D I can see that happening to them!

I actually have to agree re: snark. Moments of fluffy happiness are few and far between when the realtionship is between Rufus and Reeve. The number one theme I use for them is One Week, by the Barenaked Ladies. The verses themselves are pretty much nonsense, but the chorus itself is perfect for them.

The idea of working in a coffee shop makes my inner Reeve happy (though my inner Rufus is less thrilled about it). *__* He always wanted to work at Golden Saucer. As an anamatronics programmer, mind, not a coffeeshop attendant. X3

Do you have AIM? You seem most awesome, and it'd rock to talk to you more. <3 Mine's Killiana Niyasai.

Hahaha. XD And I sure do! Mine is "Scars of Ishbal" ::has been on an FMA kick for a while. >_>:: Be forewarned that since I'm co-running a pretty big LJ at the moment, I haven't had much time for one-on-one RP, though. D: ...I still chat day and night, though! XD;

[identity profile] killiana.livejournal.com 2007-05-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
That's cool. :D Knowing me, I'm the sort to pickup a million different RP threads at once now that I have free time, and one less to crush me until I reach equalibrium (read: balancing RP vs. Everything else) is good. :D *adds~*
